Preparing your Kids for School

As much as we dont want to admit it, school is right around the corner! Can you believe the summer disappeared so quickly? Seeing how time flies by during summer, its a good idea to start preparing both the kids and yourself for the first day. Here are a few things you can keep in mind to make the transition as smooth as possible.

1. Preparation - As you know, most children dread the last day of summer. Their freedom of playing outside all day, hanging out at the pool, and no homework or school work to do is suddenly gone. A good way to get the children excited about the first day of school is get them some new school supplies and school clothes. Its always more fun to go to school with a new backpack, new folders, new pencils, and some new school clothes.

2. Schedules - Dont wait until the last minute to start getting the kids up early and getting them ready to go somewhere. Having them used to set schedules routines will make your life much easier. Take them to run errands early in the morning and get them used to having to leave on time to go somewhere. Start getting them to bed earlier so their sleep cycles adapt.

3. Get their brains in school mode - When I was young, I can remember my mom would all of a sudden want to play games with me towards the end of summer. I never knew why until I had gotten older. Now I realize that those games were educational games, and that my moms was getting my brain back in school mode. If you can make this fun for the kids, they wont even know what you are doing! Grab a few new games from the store that will prepare them for the upcoming school year. Make a few game times throughout the week. The kids will really benefit!

4. Organization - Organization is the key for this process. When people become unorganized, they often feel stressed. This leads to an overwhelming feeling and brings tension to both you and the kids. Start getting your ducks in a row early on. Once everything is mapped out, you will feel much better. It will make those unexpected obstacles (which you know are bound to happen) easier to take on.

5. Relaxation - Can you have all the preparation, organization, and set routines down, but still feel over-stressed and overwhelmed? Of course! Thats why you need to take a step back and relax. Spend quality time with the family and know that you have everything under control.

These are just a few quick tips to getting ready for the upcoming school year. Please feel free to comment and tell us some of your tips and tricks for getting ready for school!
