So Thanksgiving is over and Christmas and Hanukah are right around the corner! These are very exciting but sometimes stressful times. Choosing toys for your kids and babies can be overwhelming. What should you spend? Which toys are safe? Which toys will your kids enjoy the most? Here are a few quick tips on what to look for in the toys you buy, both for the holidays and any other occasion.

Safety should be your number one concern when purchasing toys for young kids. Be sure to pay attention to the age group for each toy. They’re there for a reason! Don’t try and buy toys an age group ahead of where your kids are at so they can be used longer. This could cause potential danger for your kids. Also, if you think about it, how long do kids really stay occupied with one toy? Odds are by the time they are old enough for the toy you purchased, they will have already moved on to the next newest thing!

You should always beware of cheap toys, especially the small ones. Although they can make an inexpensive little treat or great stocking stuffers for your kids, they can cause big problems. Many times they are not made well and can fall apart, causing choking hazards. Also, these toys themselves may still be choking hazards even if they don’t fall apart. Many reputable brands sell small and fun toys that are made with quality parts and materials and will last through rigorous playtimes. Here is a great example. 

I just recently saw a horrible story on the news about a young child who swallowed a button size battery. The child was in critical condition, spending nights in a hospital bed. Be sure and try to avoid toys with magnets, marbles, and small batteries that can harm your babies. If the toys do have batteries, make sure that the batteries are securely locked in the toys so they cannot be removed.

Finding toys for the right price should be much easier this time of year. All stores will have weekly sales until the holidays, so just be patient and keep your eyes open so you can get the best deals. Also, don’t hesitate to look on websites like Amazon.com.  Amazon has daily deals on some of the hottest toys this year.
